In our experience, a significant source of fires in electric circuits is cracked or intermittent connections in a high current path.  Cracked solder joint connections of the type shown below are usually caused by vibration or thermal cycling stresses.  The result is a high resistance connection that will produce high localized heating even with currents that are within the circuit breaker or fuse limits.
